It’s no secret that Donald Trump is a threat to our democracy. But he’s taken his attempts to undermine the integrity of our elections to a new level with his tweets threatening to withhold funds from states who allow vote-by-mail during the public health crisis.

Without vote-by-mail, tens of thousands of our troops abroad won’t have a chance to cast their ballots and exercise their sacred right to vote, and Americans everywhere will have to choose between protecting their health or exercising their right to participate in our democracy.

It’s just wrong, and we need to speak out against Trump’s baseless attacks on voting by mail and attempts to disenfranchise millions of voters across the country including active-duty troops who rely on absentee voting to have their voice counted in our elections. Trump and national Republicans believe that the more people who can safely cast their votes in November the worse their chances are. They’ve come right out and said it multiple times. Trump’s latest attacks on voting by mail are a transparent attempt at saving his own presidency.

Donald Trump and his administration are hypocrites — Trump himself voted by mail this year, and his press secretary who is spreading his lies and attacks has voted by mail for every election since 2010. They think voting by mail is good enough for them, but not for the tens of thousands of deployed troops who rely on absentee voting to have their voices heard.
