Governor Hochul’s Executive Budget

On January 21, a few days after her State of the State address, Governor Kathy Hochul released her Executive Budget proposal. The Governor proposes total spending of $252 billion, an increase of $8.6 billion from last year, or 3.6%.

Education

In her proposed executive budget, Governor Hochul includes a planned 4.7% increase in state aid to public schools, though it offers mixed news for religious and independent schools. At the federal level, the Educational Choice for Children Act (ECCA) is expected to be reintroduced in Congress soon. This legislation would create an income tax credit for donations to scholarship-granting organizations which aid families with children in religious and independent schools. Read our recent statements on education below.

Human Services and Respect Life

Governor Hochul's proposed budget outlines many positive initiatives to support children and families, address mental health, and expand low-income and supportive housing. As always, there is also robust support for abortion within the proposals. Read our recent statements regarding human services and respect life below.

Recent News on Assisted Suicide

As we continue to oppose the legalization of assisted suicide in New York, read about assisted suicide in the news:

Stop Assisted Suicide in NY

Proponents of doctor-assisted suicide are continuing to try to legalize this deadly practice in New York. There is another BIG push this year and we need your help.

Lawmakers need to hear from their constituents if we hope to avoid yet another assault on the dignity of human life. Assisted suicide is dangerous for patients, caregivers, and vulnerable populations such as the elderly and people with disabilities. Suicide is not medical care. Please tell your State Senate and Assembly representatives that you oppose this dangerous and deadly practice. Contact your legislators now!
