"ON THE ROAD WITH TONY..."

Welcome to our January newsletter, the first newsletter of the New Year!

We're all sad and disappointed about the Lions' early exit from the play-offs, but please enjoy the Detroit Free Press article below about one of our lobby guards, Tracy Caldwell, and his wife Sheryl Strong-Caldwell, who live in a "divided" house of Commanders and Lions fandom.

Please see our feature below about 2024's incredible numbers that the Macomb County Clerk's Office processed during the year.  A salute to our hard-working supervisors and staff.

Also, check out our spotlight on the Vital Records Department, which stores and indexes many of the most important life documents such as birth, death and marriage records.

And for our Macomb County veterans, please see our video feature below about how you can file your military discharge papers (DD-214) for free and receive a free certified copy. CLICK HERE to see the video.

"BY THE NUMBERS IN 2024..."

Some of the numbers that the Macomb County Clerk's Office processed during 2024:

*"Vital Records"* -- Employees in our Vital Records section processed 2,184 birth records and 7,859 death records (I don’t like the fact that we had 5,675 more deaths than births!). Love is in the air in Macomb with 4,822 marriage applications, but this comes with a bit of caution as we did have 8,850 first-time Concealed Pistol License applications.

*"Court Department"* -- New court cases totaled 15,407 and 349,634 total documents were processed.

*"Jury Room"* -- Our office sent 39,668 Jury Service Summons for individuals to serve as jurors in the Circuit Court. In 2024, 15,108 individuals served jury duty, and of those, 980 were seated as a member of a jury for a case.

*"Election Department"* -- 2024 was a crazy year for the Election Department. In total we helped administer six elections across the County and for the first time ever recruited and trained over 350 election workers.

*"Register of Deeds"* -- The Register of Deeds section recorded 106,309 documents, including 83,299 e-Recordings. More importantly, almost 11,000 residents have been added to our Fraud Notify system since I took office four years ago.

"Clerk's Vital Records Department Hosts
the Most Important Documents in Your Life"

Online Ordering

Macomb County birth, death and marriage records are hosted and indexed by the Clerk’s Office Vital Records Departments. These records are vital to have on hand and you can always obtain new Certified Copies at the Clerk’s Office.

Macomb County residents also apply for marriage certificates, business registrations and Concealed Pistol Licenses (CPL) at its 120 N. Main Street (Downtown Mount Clemens) location.

The Clerk’s Office website features easy access to not only certified copies of Vital Records, but Macomb County land records and Court records as well. Through its robust self-service lineup, residents can purchase birth, business, death, military and marriage records. There are also convenient online applications systems, including an easy, step-by-step marriage application, Notary Public application and business application.

For those who prefer in-person services, we've reduced wait times for Clerk’s Office services in all buildings. According to Macomb County Clerk Anthony G. Forlini, “Our visitors usually get in and out in about 10 minutes. You don’t need an appointment, but our new appointment system for Register of Deeds, Vital Records and CPL Application spreads out our visitors and also reduces wait times."

"Our knowledgeable and friendly staff are waiting to serve you, led by Vital Records Supervisor Tammy Brennan."

"Former State Rep Ken Goike Appointed to Macomb County Board of Commissioners"

Commissioner Ken Goike

Clerk Forlini administers the oath of office to Ken Goike, who was recently appointed to serve as Macomb County Commissioner for District 1. Commissioner Goike, a former state representative, fills the vacancy left by longtime former board Chairman Don Brown, who resigned from the Board of Commissioners in December.

Commissioner Goike will serve until a special election in 2026 when voters will decide who will fill the remainder of the four-year term. A primary for the special election will be held Aug. 4, 2026, and the general election will be held Nov. 3, 2026.

"Divided house for Lions-Commanders matchup, but game brings family together"

*By Christina Hall,* Detroit Free Press | Published Jan. 18, 2025

Tracy Caldwell and Sheryl Strong-Caldwell have been married for 16 years, together for 20.

The Roseville couple's love is strong, even in their divided household.

On Saturday, that division will be put to the ultimate test as Sheryl's Detroit Lions battle Tracy's Washington Commanders at Ford Field in a go-big-or-go-home NFC divisional playoff game in the Motor City.

"Your team," she said to Tracy during a joint phone interview Wednesday, "I'm glad they got there, but it's not their turn. ... They're still crawling. We're running."

"No. We got three Super Bowls under our belt," Tracy retorted in a nearly hourlong interview full of fun smack talk, fond memories and jovial back-and-forth banter between the couple.
