For the first time ever, Twitter has placed a fact-check warning on one of Trump’s tweets. But one fact check warning isn’t enough.

This is big, John.

For the first time ever, Twitter has placed a fact-check warning on one of Trump’s tweets. This has been a long time coming, and something we’ve fought hard for. But one fact check warning isn’t enough.

Twitter Places Fact-Checking Warning on Trump Tweet for 1st TimeFor too long, companies like Twitter have given Trump and his friends a free platform to deceive the public with no recourse. From giving false medical advice about COVID-19, threatening foreign governments, to polluting our feeds with fake news stories — there are real and dangerous consequences to Trump’s tweets.

Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey knows all eyes are on him right now so it’s time to crank up the pressure and demand him to do the right thing: shut down Trump’s Twitter account.

Will you sign our petition to Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey calling on him to permanently suspend Trump’s Twitter account? We don’t have to give misinformation a platform.

We can’t underestimate the danger in allowing Trump to mislead the public on Twitter, especially as we get closer to the election.

Please don’t forget, John: a big reason why Trump won in 2016 was because websites like Twitter enabled trolls to spread misinformation. Now Trump is using the platform to spread lies about Vote by Mail in a blatant attempt to keep people from voting in November.

One Ipsos Public Affairs study found that fake headlines fool American adults 75% of the time. All together, fake and conspiracy sites published more than 6 million tweets in the month before the election.1

We’ve been putting the pressure on Twitter to take action for years. Almost exactly one year ago today, we delivered over 200,000 petition signatures from our movement to Twitter's headquarters to demand that the company #SuspendTrump.

We made so much noise that the company was forced to respond and sent Women’s March a personal letter. If enough of us step up again, we can demand action and force them to be accountable to us.

Let’s join together and hold Twitter accountable again. We’ll send every signature collected directly to Twitter and together we can stop Trump’s lies once and for all.

In solidarity,
Women’s March Team
