Democrat,
As New Jersey continues to gradually and deliberately reopen industries and activities forced into closure by COVID-19, Governor Phil Murphy and his team are working to make sure we proceed safely and responsibly. Yesterday the Governor made two major announcements on topics that have been widely discussed -- allowing safe in-person graduation ceremonies for high school and college students, and clearing the way for professional sports to resume activities.

School districts and colleges/universities will be able to hold modified in-person graduation ceremonies beginning on July 6. The state is mandating that ceremonies be held outdoors, adhere to social distancing protocols, and observe capacity restrictions in order to protect the health of students and families celebrating these milestones amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. This is welcome news to our state’s graduates and their families, and an example of Governor Murphy and his team following the data while providing flexibility for New Jerseyans.

Governor Murphy’s second announcement noted that professional sports teams which train or play in New Jersey are now allowed to practice and engage in games or matches, if their leagues resume competition. With the resources available to professional sports teams like the Giants, Jets, Red Bulls and more, players and essential staff will be able to resume their activities in a safe way at the discretion of their respective leagues.
