Senator Rónán Mullen was re-elected to Seanad Éireann yesterday, comfortably taking the second seat in the three-seat National University of Ireland constituency.
Senator Mullen finished with a total of 9,107 votes in what was another very strong election showing. Senator Michael McDowell topped the poll while the third seat was filled by Senator Alice Mary Higgins who was elected without reaching the quota.
Following on from the pro-life gains in the recent General Election, Senator Mullen's re-election is further proof that there is a significant pro-life vote across the country and that a sizeable chunk of the electorate wish to vote for candidates who are fearless in speaking up for life and for the most vulnerable and forgotten members of society.
Congratulations to Senator Mullen on his re-election and to all the other pro-life candidates who are contesting the Seanad elections. There is reason to be hopeful that more pro-life Senators will be elected in the coming days as counts on the other panels get underway.
