John,

The United States Postal Service is a vital part of our country’s past and present.

It’s one of the first established government entities in the Constitution and was created to serve all Americans equally. No matter who you are, where you live, how much money you make, what political affiliation you identify with, or anything else -- the USPS helps make our lives easier and more connected.

That’s why it’s outrageous to me that the Postal Service is now on the chopping block -- losing this service would be devastating to rural communities. Rural carriers are like a mobile post office for farmers working round the clock during planting season, saving them time and money by bringing their medicine, supplies, and products to them directly.

They’re also a valuable wellness check for seniors, folks with disabilities, and those who live far from their neighbors or family.

The unofficial motto of the USPS is “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”

No matter the weather, the circumstances, the season -- postal carriers are always there for us. It’s time that we stand up and fight for them now.

The truth is that the fate of the Postal Service should never be a political issue. This is a public interest issue.

Having an equal, affordable, accessible, reliable, and nationwide method of communication is crucial to our economy, our democracy (don’t forget to mail in your ballot), and so much more.

And we can’t forget the humanity of it all -- the USPS employs over 600,000 people, including 97,000 veterans, and they are some of the friendliest folks out there. My neighbor down the street lives alone, and one of the daily interactions that bring a smile to her face is with our mail carrier.

If you believe that all Americans should have this essential service, you have to speak up now -- add your name to our petition calling for immediate relief for the USPS.
