News from Congressman Mike Levin

Reading Time: 5 minutes

Dear Neighbor,

This year is already off to a busy start. I’m excited to share the work I've been doing for you, but first I want to address the change in Presidential administrations.

Last week, I attended President Trump’s inauguration. Regardless of who is in the White House, know that I am committed to working on a bipartisan basis whenever possible. In my six years in Congress, I have authored 34 bills that have become law — 16 signed by President Trump, and 18 by President Biden. My commitment to delivering results for our community will continue.

Standing Up for Wildfire Disaster Relief

The recent wildfires in our region have been devastating. I’m praying for the safety of those impacted, and I’m grateful to our first responders working to keep us safe. We must act to protect our region from future disasters.

During this crisis, it’s shameful that anyone would try to use California as a punching bag to advance unrelated priorities. Last week, I spoke out strongly against the conditioning of aid on the House floor. Please know I am prepared to do whatever it takes to stand up for Southern California.

I want to hear from you:

Are you concerned about partisan efforts to condition aid for the California Wildfires?

Wildfire Visits

Rep. Mike Levin Inspects Fire Damage

On Monday, I visited Altadena and Pacific Palisades as part of a bipartisan Congressional Delegation with fellow members of the House Appropriations Committee. The scope of the damage was devastating and unlike anything I’ve ever seen. The people of these communities desperately need our help and our prayers.

Joining the House Appropriations Committee

Rep. Mike Levin was selected to serve on the House Appropriations Committee

This Congress, I’m excited that my colleagues selected me to serve on the powerful House Appropriations Committee, which is at the center of Congress’s “power of the purse.” I will be serving on two subcommittees, Energy and Water Development and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs. These subcommittee assignments will allow me to keep delivering federal funding for our community’s priorities, including sand replenishment, spent nuclear fuel removal, and veterans' services.

Tackling the Climate Crisis

Rep. Mike Levin speaking at a Climate Action Press conference

Recently, I led a letter to House Speaker Mike Johnson and House Minority Leader Hakeem Jefferies urging them to prioritize policies that address climate change and avoid rollbacks of existing clean energy initiatives.  House Democrats have delivered lower energy costs for consumers, reduced pollution, and created new clean energy jobs. These initiatives have grown the economy and improved our environment, and it’s important we don’t reverse our progress.

Threats to Protections from Offshore Drilling

This week President Trump issued an executive order to allow offshore drilling off the West Coast and elsewhere. I’ve worked to ban offshore drilling in Southern California for several years, and I’ll fight to keep these vital protections in place for our coastal environment and economy.
