John,
In times like these, we need clear leadership. What we saw on Tuesday was not just troubling, but it was deeply irresponsible.
Tuesday, the Office of Management and Budget released a memo announcing that they would be enforcing a freeze on federal funding per the Trump-Vance Administration.
As of this moment, there is back-and-forth, but a federal judge has blocked the freeze until Monday. With the time that we have, we are working around the clock to ensure we have a full understanding of how this will affect Marylanders.
We know one thing is clear: This action from the White House has caused unnecessary confusion, instability for our economy, and fear among Marylanders.
This is not what a responsible government looks like — this is chaos. John, we will not let this seep into our state. We are going to answer this instability with clear, calm, and steady leadership.
Maryland has joined other states in a lawsuit to block the funding freeze.
We are in constant communication with local, state, and federal partners on both sides of the aisle so we can deepen our understanding of this developing situation.
I want Maryland to know that our commitment to leaving no one behind has not changed. We remain committed to Maryland, our Constitutional rights, growing our economy, and restoring faith in our institutions, public servants, and our democracy.
John, the best antidote to chaos is calm. We will continue to provide real results for working families even when the winds are harsh and the storm is fierce.
Elevate,
Wes
