[Join Us in Honoring Black History Month]

This Black History Month, we celebrate a long legacy of hope and healing among Black and African American people. In honor of that legacy, we want to empower you with resources created by experts in Black and African American mental health and suicide prevention.

We know from research that suicide is often preventable. We also know that culturally relevant mental health resources are essential to fighting suicide among historically marginalized and underserved communities.

Whether you're a member of the Black and African American community, or an advocate for suicide prevention, these resources can help you learn more about how to support yourself and others:

- [L.E.T.S. (Listening, Empathy, Trust, Support) Save Lives: An Introduction to Suicide Prevention for Black and African American Communities]([link removed]) –– L.E.T.S. Save Lives is a research-based presentation created by and for Black and African American people to help reduce cultural stigma, foster conversations about mental health, and raise awareness of suicide prevention in their communities. [Contact your local AFSP chapter]([link removed]) to learn more.
- ["Coming Together to Prevent Suicide in Black Communities"]([link removed]) –– In this episode of our ongoing series, Elevating Voices for Long-Lasting Change, AFSP Chief Medical Officer Dr. Christine Yu Moutier moderates a discussion among three leading experts on mental health and suicide prevention in Black communities. Among the panelists is Victor (Vic) Armstrong, MSW, who has since joined AFSP as Vice President for Health Equity and Engagement.
- ["Mental Health and Suicide Prevention Resources for Black and African American People"]([link removed]) –– Use and share our roundup of mental health and suicide prevention resources focused on supporting Black and African American people, including a list of national mental health resources, articles from our Real Stories blog, and additional AFSP programs and media.

This February, remember that there is strength in seeking help –– and that no matter who you are, you are not alone.

These life-saving programs and resources are all made possible by you, our AFSP community. Your ongoing support helps us to continue our mission of saving lives, and working with diverse communities to ensure that culturally relevant mental health resources are equitably available across the nation.
