Dear John,

I often describe the work we do at Ms. Foundation as “heart work,” because it is deeply personal for many of us. With the challenging times ahead, the opportunity to think and be creative is essential to prevent overextension and burnout, especially in this space. Centering rest, both internally and for our partners, is key to the long-term sustainability of the fights for gender and racial equity.

With this in mind, I’m excited to share that I’ll be taking a three-month sabbatical beginning this month. I’ll do some traveling, some “adulting,” and lots of resting. Four years ago, Ms. Foundation established our sabbatical policy, and I’m thrilled to have the chance to take advantage of it.

I can't wait to see what the next few months will hold, and for what the spaciousness will bring in my thinking for philanthropy and the movements we support. Take care of yourself. I look forward to seeing you all at our Women of Vision Awards gala in April!

In solidarity,

Ms. Foundation in the News

Data from our Pocket Change research series was featured in a Public News Service story on Women's Foundation of the South, a Building Connections grantee partner.

"A study by the Ms. Foundation for Women shows that nonprofit organizations led by women of color receive about 50% less in funding from charities and foundations."

Women’s Foundation of the South is working to combat this underinvestment, and currently supports 120 organizations across five southern states. Read more here!

Pocket Change 3.0 Survey Reopened

Our Pocket Change research provides philanthropy with new tools and a mandate to give more, better, and with greater transparency to our gender and racial justice movements. As a continuation of our Pocket Change series, we're reopening our survey of organizations led by or working for women, girls, and gender-expansive people of color, so the data, analysis, and report is inclusive of as many voices as possible.

We are particularly interested to hear from more organizations in the West, Midwest, and serving Arab, Middle Eastern, AAPI, Native Hawaiian, First Nations, and Indigenous women and gender-expansive people, as well as women and gender-expansive people of color living with disabilities. The extended survey period will run until March 7, 2025. Click here to to get your personalized survey link.
