Yesterday, RFK Jr. had his first confirmation hearing for his nomination to Secretary of Health and Human Services—and as a tech justice and human rights org, what we heard only confirmed our worst fears.

Among other wild claims, RFK Jr. proposed cutting healthcare costs by introducing “AI nurses,” a technology he reports he “saw the other day” and is “as good as any doctor.”¹ When asked questions about abortion, he made it clear he’d defer to Trump’s agenda— which we know includes Project 2025’s clearly outlined plans for HHS to further criminalize and surveil abortion seekers.

We already knew RFK Jr.’s nomination poses a serious threat to our health, especially the communities of color, queer and trans people, and abortion seekers disproportionately harmed by bad tech policy. Now, it’s abundantly clear. RFK Jr. is not just unqualified, he’s unsafe. By playing fast and loose with tech he doesn’t understand, he’ll only make health disparities worse and give government and Big Tech more power to track and control what we do with our bodies.
