We begin 2025, marking Outright International’s 35th anniversary—a milestone in the ongoing fight for global LGBTIQ equality. Yet, as we celebrate decades of progress, we also face mounting threats, including escalating attacks on trans and nonbinary people under the new U.S. administration. In this update, we highlight how our movement is responding to these challenges, reflect on key moments from the 2024 OutSummit, and look ahead to OutSummit 2025, reaffirming 35 years of advancing human rights worldwide. We also underscore the vital support provided to partners around the world and invite you to unite in solidarity with future generations by joining the Outstanding Legacy Circle.

** Global Solidarity Now More than Ever!

Ending federal anti-discrimination protections for trans people, excluding trans women from federal programs, and mandating government identification reflect so-called "biological reality" rather than self-determined gender identity are just a few implications of U.S. President Donald Trump's Executive Order, "Defending Women from Gender Ideology Extremism and Restoring Biological Truth to the Federal Government." This direct attack on trans and gender-diverse Americans will reverse over a decade of progress toward global best practices and increase the risk of violence and discrimination. Learn more about the global implication of the order in our statement. ([link removed]) Outright International has been featured in both international ([link removed]) and regional ([link removed]) media, responding to this executive
order that has set us back in the global movement for LGBTIQ rights.

** Unveiling Key Insights for Inclusive Humanitarian Action
------------------------------------------------------------

Our recently launched report, "Leaving No One Behind Means Starting at the Back of the Line: LGBTIQ Inclusion in Humanitarian Settings," presents key takeaways from a groundbreaking Global Consultation on LGBTIQ Inclusion in Humanitarian Action, which Outright International and Deutsche Bank hosted in New York City in September 2024. The report highlights that during humanitarian crises, LGBTIQ individuals are often overlooked and excluded from assistance due to pre-crisis social norms that perpetuate discrimination. There’s an urgent need for the humanitarian system to fulfill its commitments to centering crisis-affected people, protecting all individuals at risk, and upholding their rights without discrimination. The report contains critical themes and recommendations resulting from the consultation. We encourage you to read the full report ([link removed]) .

** Asian Development Bank Addresses LGBTIQ Inclusion
------------------------------------------------------------

The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has taken a significant step towards inclusivity by adopting an Environmental and Social Framework (ESF) that explicitly addresses the risk of exclusion based on gender, sexual orientation, and gender identity. This move reflects ADB's commitment to ensuring that disadvantaged and vulnerable populations are not excluded from projects financed by the bank, aligning with the broader goals of sustainable and inclusive development in Asia. Outright International has played a pivotal role in advocating for the explicit recognition of sexual orientation and gender identity within the ADB's framework.
