Creating a better future for children with K.I.N.D.
For too long, students in Malawi have had to sit on the floor in crowded classrooms, struggling to write legibly or concentrate, creating a physically difficult learning experience. In response to conditions like these, MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell has partnered with UNICEF USA for over a decade to provide desks for students in Malawi through the K.I.N.D. Fund. Since its inception in 2010, K.I.N.D. has delivered more than 385,000 desks across the country, reaching more than 1.5 million learners.

Reaching children on the move in Panama
As violence, extreme poverty and the devastating effects of climate change persist, families continue to make the harrowing journey through the Darien Gap in search of a better life. This is the harsh reality for children — who make up about 25 percent of all people on the move — in Latin America and the Caribbean. UNICEF is working to provide basic services to children on the move in Panama, such as providing safe spaces where children can learn, play and simply be children.

Young people are leading powerful health campaigns in Haiti
In Haiti, where armed violence and natural disasters have displaced more than 700,000 people, young people are making a difference in ensuring that families receive vital health information. With training from UNICEF and partners, U-Reporters have reached almost 500,000 people with essential information on health, nutrition, immunization and hygiene. Through these efforts, vaccination rates have increased for their children and reports of violence against children have decreased.

Delivering emergency relief to meet children’s needs in Gaza after ceasefire
For over a year, attacks in Gaza have left more than 1 million children without access to safe water, hygiene and sanitation, and destroyed key infrastructure in the region. Moments after a ceasefire was implemented, dozens of UNICEF humanitarian aid trucks entered Gaza, loaded with water, hygiene kits, nutrition, warm winter clothes and other critical aid for children — with more than 1,000 additional trucks at the ready. As families in Gaza face a long road ahead in rebuilding their lives, UNICEF and partners will continue to scale up their response, providing the necessary supplies to support children’s most urgent needs.
