Hi FNAME,
This World NTD Day, we’re celebrating a unique milestone in our fight against parasitic worm infections – the number of children with worms has dropped, so we’re changing how we support government programs ([link removed]) .
Our Deworm the World program has helped governments protect hundreds of millions of children from soil-transmitted helminth and schistosomiasis infections. By preventing these neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), we can improve growth, aid education, and increase economic opportunities, leading to billions of dollars in productivity gains ([link removed]) – all for less than 50 cents per treatment.
Working through schools – where we can reach children efficiently – we have achieved extraordinary results. In several areas, worm infections have dropped more than 50%.
In these areas, our role is evolving. After helping two Indian states reach extremely low disease prevalence, we've handed their programs fully to their governments. We are planning similar transitions in six more Indian states in 2025 and designing systems to maintain progress and prevent resurgence. This is exactly what success should look like. But, our work is not done. While we continue to support the treatment of more than 210 million children across Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, and other Indian states, we’re moving our support to reach children in other geographies who need deworming.
We launched ([link removed]) Deworm the World in Malawi last year, targeting 2.6M children for deworming treatment. Our support is projected to improve the livelihoods of dewormed children by $130M, helping to break cycles of poverty within their communities.
This work is not possible without our dedicated supporters and staff. Thank you for helping us create a world where parasitic worms no longer hold children back.
