BREAKING NEWS! Trump just caved and reversed his unconstitutional funding freeze on everything from school lunches to help for our seniors!

This came after the New York Times reported the "first unified opposition to President Trump" since the inauguration. Finally! Our recent survey of PCCC members showed that we want Democrats in Congress to fight harder – WITH BACKBONE!

Led by younger and bolder members of Congress like Maxwell Frost (Florida), Yassamin Ansari (Arizona), Robert Garcia (California), and Chris Murphy (Connecticut), they did!

Trump’s attempt to cut popular programs like Social Security and veterans health care to fund tax cuts for billionaires will continue. But we won this round and live to fight another day.

Please say thank you by donating $20 to 20 members of Congress who fought back boldly – and won! Donate here.

Check out some headlines and examples of Democrats fighting back:

NY Times: Democrats Find a Voice in Opposition to Trump's Funding Halt

Washington Post: Trump White House reverses course, rescinds freeze on federal grants

Rep. Yassamin Ansari (AZ-03)

REP. YASSAMIN ANSARI: Trump is blowing up the Constitution and dismantling democracy before our eyes. Freezing all federal grants is a radical transformation of the relationship between the President & Congress. It’s illegal & dictatorial & Americans will die as a result.

 Rep. Sarah McBride (DE-At-Large)

REP: SARAH MCBRIDE: The White House either won't or can't confirm whether Medicaid is impacted by this freeze. Medicaid covers nearly 1 in 5 Americans. Either they don't want you to have coverage or they don't care if you have coverage. Unless you donate millions of dollars or stage an insurrection, this White House just doesn't care about you.

Progressive Caucus Chair Rep. Greg Casar (TX-35)

GREG CASAR: Trump shut off Medicaid & was forced to turn it back on. But he'll keep pushing his order to shut off federal programs. He wants to take meals from seniors, pre-K from kids, & jobs from veterans. All so he can give billionaires a tax break. We must unite to stop Trump.

Rep. Maxwell Frost (FL-10)

Rep. MAXWELL FROST: Trump just paused all federal spending to our communities. Why? He needs to free up money to give corrupt billionaires and corporations tax cuts. Meanwhile, Republicans in Congress are cheering him on. The golden age for the richest and the dark ages for working people.

Rep. Pat Ryan (NY-18)

REP. PAT RYAN: It’s scary, confusing and dangerous that folks don’t know whether programs they depend on will exist tomorrow. This isn’t a game. Already we’re seeing impacts on Medicaid ⬇️ I frankly don’t know what Trump will come for next. But I do know I will not give up the fight.

Rep. Chris Deluzio (PA-17)

REP.CHRIS DELUZIO: My office has gotten a lot of calls about Pres. Trump's effort to freeze congressionally-approved federal funding. This $$ supports our cops, firefighters, teachers, kids, and so much more. Know this: I'm gonna fight to get this funding unfrozen and delivered to Western PA.

Rep. Josh Riley (NY-19)

Josh Riley: The OMB’s directive freezing federal funding is complete bullshit. Upstate New Yorkers work hard and pay our taxes - the least we should expect in return is a government that doesn’t screw us over just to give more handouts to billionaires and big corporations. I’m fighting back. If you’re impacted and need help, please contact my office.

Rep. Robert Garcia (CA-42)

Robert Garcia: Donald Trump is stealing funds for hungry kids and seniors, while his billionaire friends get richer. This is lunacy.

Rep. Dave Min (CA-47)

Dave Min: President Trump's executive orders freezing federal funding are illegal and I am hopeful they will be stopped in the courts. But millions of Americans-- waiting for cancer treatments, food assistance, or health care-- are suffering as a result.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14)

AOC: Trump is holding all the nation’s hospitals and vital services hostage to seize power from Congress and hand it over to billionaires. We must state the truth: this is a constitutional crisis. It’s a massive, illegal power grab that the House and Senate have a sworn duty to stop.

Sen. Ruben Gallego (AZ)

Ruben Gallego: This is an abuse of power. Presidents can't just cut funding for things they don't like.

Lt. Gov. Antonio Delgado (NY)

Point me to where Trump campaigned on freezing Medicaid. He never did. As I’ve said, he campaigns like a populist and governs like an oligarch. If ever there were a time for all leaders in the Democratic Party to govern like populists, the time is now.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (MA)

SEN. ELIZABETH WARREN: While President Trump illegally pauses federal funding from Congress, the Senate must not be business as usual. We do not consent to this lawless power grab.

Sen. Bernie Sanders (VT)

BERNIE SANDERS: The president can veto or support legislation. He can make recommendations to Congress. But he doesn't have the unilateral right to change laws. Trump has very little respect for the rule of law & our Constitution. He is moving us toward authoritarianism. We must stop him.

 Sen. Jeff Merkley (OR)

A President is not a King, and a law is not a suggestion. Trump's illegal funding freeze is a Constitutional crisis.

Sen. Chris Murphy (CT)

SEN. CHRIS MURPHY: Trump's government funding shutdown - Medicaid, cancer research, elementary schools - is cataclysmic by itself. But together with the pardon of the rioters, the firing of the IGs, etc. it's a brazen, transparent effort to seize power. Let's start acting like it.

Rep. Ro Khanna (CA-17)

REP. RO KHANNA: The Constitution gives Congress the power of the purse, not the White House. These funds have already been allocated. They help families afford food, heat their homes, pay for childcare, go to the doctor, and more. This is worse than Project 2025.

Gov. Tim Walz (MN)

Tim Walz: President Trump just shut off funding for law enforcement, farmers, schools, veterans, and health care. We are working diligently to reverse this, but we are preparing for every outcome to help Minnesotans weather this storm. Minnesota needs answers. We’ll see Trump in court.

Donate $20 to say thanks to 20 members of Congress who fought back boldly and won.

Thank you for pushing for BACKBONE from Democrats.
