President Trump’s reckless move on Monday to pause all federal aid caused confusion for Virginians, including those counting on assistance in the wake of Hurricane Helene.

From healthcare to education to vital infrastructure projects, this freeze put key federal services at risk — services that millions of Virginia families and businesses rely on every day.

Unlike President Trump, I understand the importance of federal programs that provide healthcare, support our schools, and protect working families. Trump pulling taxpayer dollars to slash programs that impact our most vulnerable communities is unacceptable.

While the Trump administration has partially rescinded the order — only after a federal court blocked them — Virginians deserved clarity about this decision from the very beginning, as it led to serious and near instant repercussions for our Commonwealth. This is simply no way to govern.
