Hi John,
Yesterday, President Trump attempted to cut virtually all federal grants and loans, spreading widespread confusion across the government, Congress, state programs, and non-profits that rely on federal funding. Fortunately, enough of us fought back against these cuts, and the White House was forced to back down.
The impacts of these cuts would’ve been felt deeply here in Colorado:
>> There are almost 7,000 Head Start programs all over our state that serve nearly 9,000 kids.
>> There are almost 350,000 veterans in Colorado, many of whom rely on federally funded services like the VA for their healthcare.
>> A quarter of Colorado residents, nearly 3 million people, receive their healthcare through Medicaid.
It is an understatement to say that this reckless order, if legally permitted, would have a detrimental impact on so many of Colorado’s communities. Thankfully, a federal judge blocked this spending cut, and those of us who fight for the interests of working families caused enough of a ruckus that President Trump was forced to back down and rescind his order.
Let’s be clear: We can’t react with outrage every time Trump and his cronies make another disastrous decision. Instead of taking the bait and throwing up our arms, we need to take action, and we must be prepared for whatever curveballs and hits they throw at us.
