I had a quick check-in with Hannah, my finance director, and she asked me to reach out to some of our strongest supporters with a request:

Could you spare $10 to help my team meet our end-of-month fundraising target before January ends?

Let me explain why I’m asking:

A couple weeks before I took office, Republicans pushed through a new law designed to hamstring my administration and secure power in the GOP’s hands — despite the fact that North Carolina voters broke Republicans’ legislative supermajority and elected Democrats statewide in November. It was a blatant attempt to undermine the will of the voters, and it’s one that we can’t take lying down.

Since then, the GOP has spent weeks seeking to undo a Democratic state Supreme Court Justice’s re-election victory by throwing out tens of thousands of legal ballots.

We must push back aggressively against these far-right attempts to undermine our elections.

By meeting our goal, we’ll prove that momentum is still on our side, that folks still oppose the far-right’s anti-democratic agenda, and that we’re NOT giving up just because Republicans played political games with the governance of our state.

Hannah let me know that we’re not quite where we need to be to meet our $25,000 target in the next couple days, so it’s important that we pick up the pace. Can I count you in for a $10 contribution, or a donation that fits in your budget?
