Dear Friend,
People are still on edge and on alert for new threats after more than 23 fires raged in Southern California from January 7 to January 23. The devastating fires claimed at least 28 lives, displaced more than 200,000 people, and put tens of thousands under evacuation notice.
Thanks to the support of our generous community, our teams continue to work around the clock to provide HOPE -- supporting mobile medical units and distributing urgently needed items like hygiene kits. We're committed to helping evacuees recover, including families and children who have lost everything.

Project HOPE's Emergency Response Team on the ground continues to distribute hygiene and dignity items, as well as psychological first aid and children's activity kits, PPE, clean water, and medicines, to people affected by the fires at shelters and health clinics. The team is also providing high-quality particulate-filtering masks and air purifiers to reduce smoke inhalation.
The team continues to assess outstanding needs at local health clinics and set up additional mobile medical units to reach displaced and impacted families throughout Los Angeles.

With your support, we can identify and address the most crucial health care needs in the ongoing destruction, including mental health needs. Exposure to natural disasters like this increases the risk of anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), especially among children.
"The kids are not alright. They're acting differently and they're under stress," said Chessa Latifi, our Deputy Director of Emergency Preparedness and Response who lives in LA. "The apocalyptic conditions unfolding here in my own community are unlike anything I've ever experienced."
Our team is mobilizing mental health support in response to the historic fires and distributing vouchers to connect people affected by the crisis with free counseling and mental health services.
