John,
Across the country, immigrant children and families are living in fear of President Trump’s immigration agenda. But thankfully, for now, communities in Iowa don’t have the added burden of worrying about SF 2340, the worst immigration law in the state’s history.
Last week, a federal appeals court upheld a temporary block on SF 2340. The law attempts to give Iowa state officials the power to arrest, detain, and deport anyone who reentered the country after being deported, including children and those who are now authorized to be in the U.S.
We knew this was unconstitutional. So, in May 2024, we filed a lawsuit with the help of the American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa and the national ACLU.
The court agreed, saying SF 2340 is unconstitutional and that it should remain blocked while litigation continues.

The fate of immigrants and their families shouldn’t be controlled by the whims of state officials. We will continue fighting Iowa’s punitive law until it is permanently blocked.
Litigation like this will become even more vital as states officials—and the Trump administration—try to pass anti-immigrant laws. Stand with us as we raise $100,000 during Trump’s first 100 days in office. [[link removed]]
Sincerely,
Jeremy Robbins
