Forget COVID-19, Voters Want to Hear Directly from
Political Candidates At Their Doorsteps
Edina, Minnesota, Wednesday, May 27 – Campaigning used to be all about shaking hands and knocking on doors of potential voters, but then came the Coronavirus.
Political candidates in all parties, running for elective office want to know when they can get out in their communities and start knocking on people’s doors, so they can have those important conservations with potential voters.
American Majority conducted a non-scientific survey on political candidates canvassing neighborhoods knocking on doors during the Coronavirus epidemic. 493 individuals participated in the seven-question survey over seven days’ time, Tuesday, May 12 – Tuesday, May 19, 2020.
By 58% to 42%, potential voters said they would be supportive of political candidates, regardless of party, knocking on the door of their home TODAY to discuss politics and the issues of the day. This jumps even higher to 67% support of political candidates knocking on doors this fall.
Asked if the potential voters would be more comfortable with answering the door if the political candidate was wearing a protective mask, a whopping 76% said no!
“American voters like to see political candidates up close and personal. They like kicking the tires and looking under the hood, if you will, of potential elected officials, and on the flip side of that, candidates want to look potential voters in the eye and shake their hands to gain their trust and votes,” said Lonny Leitner, Chief of Staff of American Majority.
