John,
Donald Trump’s latest proposal is an outrageous attack on tax fairness. By proposing to dismantle IRS enforcement and reassign agents to border patrol, he’s prioritizing politics over holding wealthy tax cheats accountable.[1]
Over the past year, the IRS has proven its value by collecting $1.3 billion from tax evaders and improving services for everyday Americans. These efforts have ensured that billionaires and corporations pay closer to what they owe while taxpayers receive better, faster service.[2]
Trump’s plan would upend this progress. Dismantling the IRS allows the wealthiest individuals and corporations to evade taxes with ease. It’s a direct assault on hardworking families and a functioning tax system.
Tell the acting IRS Commissioner to stay focused on enforcing tax laws and reject these dangerous political games.
The IRS’s work is critical to funding the programs Americans rely on most—healthcare, education, infrastructure, and more. Weakening its enforcement capabilities only benefits the ultra-wealthy while harming everyone else.
Every dollar collected from tax cheats goes back into our communities, funding the essential services that build a fair and prosperous society. Allowing Trump’s reckless plan to move forward would undo these achievements and create chaos within the tax system.
We must safeguard the progress we’ve made and ensure the IRS remains focused on its mission of tax fairness for all.
This is a pivotal moment. Urge the interim IRS Commissioner to double down on efforts to hold tax cheats accountable and protect the IRS’s role in promoting fairness and equality.
Thank you for joining us in this fight,

John,
Over the past two-and-a-half years―ever since the IRS had its depleted funding restored―the IRS has been making real progress and a real difference in the fight for tax fairness. Just over the past year, the agency collected more than $1.3 billion from wealthy tax cheats.[1] Taxpayer phone calls are now answered in three minutes instead of 30.[2] With enhanced enforcement and improved taxpayer services, the agency is proving its worth as a cornerstone of economic efficiency and justice.
But now, the progress the IRS is making is at risk as Donald Trump has announced his intention to dismantle IRS enforcement by firing thousands of agents or reassigning them to the southern border armed with guns:

This reckless plan undermines the IRS’s core mission of cracking down on wealthy tax cheats and supporting hardworking families.
Here’s how we fight back: The acting IRS Commissioner is a nonpartisan civil servant committed to upholding the agency’s mission, not a political appointee advancing Trump’s reckless agenda. This gives us a critical opportunity to influence the agency’s direction.
We cannot afford to let Trump destroy the IRS. Tell the acting IRS Commissioner to reject Trump’s distractions and stay focused on serving everyday taxpayers and cracking down on wealthy and corporate tax cheats.
The consequences are clear. Weakening IRS enforcement would allow billionaires and big corporations to continue to cheat on their taxes while everyday taxpayers, who rely on timely refunds and accurate filings, would lose the benefits of improved services.
The progress we’ve made so far has proven that a fully funded and empowered IRS can tackle tax evasion and provide better services, including answering more calls and clearing the backlog of tax filings.
But Trump’s plan threatens to erase these gains and undermine trust in the tax system.
That’s why your voice matters as we work to make sure that every dollar the IRS collects from tax cheats goes directly toward funding public programs that benefit everyone.
Now is the time to act. Urge the acting IRS Commissioner to remain focused on enforcement efforts and resist attempts to derail the agency’s critical mission.
Together, we can protect a fair and equitable tax system that serves all Americans.
Thank you for standing with us in the fight for tax fairness,
