John, it’s Iowa Senate Democratic Leader Janice Weiner – with some good news for a change!

In case you missed it, last night we chipped away at Republicans’ majority in the Iowa Senate with a HUGE special election victory! Democrat Mike Zimmer won decisively against his extreme MAGA opponent.

This is exciting for several reasons.

1️⃣ It gives Democrats another seat in the Iowa Senate – which means another Senator to fight to fully fund our public schools, make life more affordable for Iowans, and expand access to health care.

2️⃣ It shows Republicans that we are not backing down.

3️⃣ It gives us a huge momentum boost as we head towards 2026!

Democrats in Iowa are fired up, and we have a real chance to flip even more Republican seats come November 3rd, 2026. But in order for this to happen, we need to have a successful 2025. It started off strong with yesterday’s key win – but that will only continue with folks like you chipping in what you can today to help out the Iowa Senate Dems.

I truly believe that this victory by Mike Zimmer is not a one-off. This special election sent a message here in Iowa – that we are fed up with Kim Reynolds’ out of touch policies that have made our state a worse place for workers, weakened our education system, and restricted personal freedoms.

Yesterday, Iowans showed that they are ready to move on, as this was the first seat across the country that flipped since Trump took office. And we’re ready to flip more.

Iowa Democrats, this is our moment. Senator-elect Zimmer showed that when we fight for Iowa families, we can win anywhere. With this victory, we can begin to set the tone in this state, reject the extreme Republican agenda, and move on to a more equal, fair, and profitable future.
