Yesterday, Donald Trump tried to enact an indefinite funding freeze on federal grants and loans. The courts put a temporary stop to it for now, but we've already seen the chaos that this freeze would cause if it is allowed to go into effect:

Medicaid payment systems went down in states across the country. Seniors and others who rely on food assistance were unsure where their next meal will come from. And housing assistance for homeless veterans was put at risk.

This funding freeze isn’t just blatantly illegal — it’s reckless and cruel.

We are already hearing stories from doctors and hospitals who were unable to get paid. Lawmakers have even received word that domestic violence shelters could be forced to shutter their doors.

Let’s be clear: This brazen power-grab is completely unacceptable and unconstitutional.
