Economic Democracy Weekly

In today’s Economic Democracy Weekly, we feature stories about crisis, community, and economic justice. We begin with a firsthand account of the fires in Los Angeles and what that experience teaches us about the power and limitations of mutual aid. Next, an article on worker unionization at the nation’s largest co-op retailer, REI, reveals a crisis of co-op representation—will union advocates win seats on the co-op’s board? This article is followed by an analysis of a workforce development crisis that leaves 4.7 million Americans between the ages of 16 and 24 both out of school and unemployed—and offers some examples of community-led efforts that can mend this gap. Finally, we want to hear from you: please submit your stories of how you have stood up for economic justice in the workplace for our column, "We Stood Up."
