Dear John,

Several years ago, a Lebanese woman named Rima lived comfortably on the equivalent of $2,000 USD per month.

It was enough to provide for her three children and care for her aging mother.

But in 2020, the Lebanese central bank decided to intervene in the economy with subsidies and price controls to try to bring down prices.

Of course, the intervention had the opposite effect…

  • Products disappeared from store shelves.
  • All trips to the store involved waiting in long lines.
  • Electricity became unreliable.
  • Businesses and hospitals had to close.
And Rima’s monthly purchasing power shrunk from $2,000 to just $60.

Fortunately, Rima found relief when the central bank repealed their policy in 2023…

And they did it due to aggressive pressure from Lebanese Institute for Market Studies (LIMS), an Atlas Network partner organization.

It’s true…

Atlas Network supported LIMS with grant funding and coaching, and they convinced the bank to change policy after countless meetings and an intense media campaign.

As a result, LIMS’s advocacy didn’t just repeal a harmful policy—it restored a working economy for over five million people.

Read the full story in Freedom’s Champion magazine to uncover how LIMS defeated a central bank and earned the 2024 Templeton Freedom Award and Middle East & North Africa Liberty Award.

Your support makes victories like this possible, and we’re grateful to have you as part of our global movement for freedom and prosperity!

Thank you,

Kam
