Brad Lander for NYC Mayor

Dear John,

Last night, Donald Trump's budget office ordered all federal agencies to freeze federal loans and grants that cover the things that hundreds of millions of Americans need.

We're talking about money that pays the rent for low income families, child care, health care, federal emergency grants, science research – even kids' school lunches. And as my office has reported, New York City gets $100 million a year in federal funds.

Let's be clear, this is illegal.

This is unconstitutional.

And this is going to hurt people.

Trump doesn't have the authority to do it, but of course, that won’t stop a bully from stealing your lunch money.

Our New York State Attorney General Tish James is tough enough to stand up for New Yorkers and sue Donald Trump for his unconstitutional freeze of federal funding. I'm grateful for her leadership. And I am relieved a judge ruled tonight to temporarily stop the freeze. Trump and OMB must follow the rule of law.

But where's our Mayor? New York City needs to stand up and file a lawsuit, too.

John, I'm calling on Mayor Adams to file or join a lawsuit in federal court against Donald Trump’s anti-democratic power grab. The Mayor can't be so concerned about currying favor for a pardon, that he won’t even stand up for New Yorkers.

If you’re with me, add your name to demand that Mayor Adams stand up for New Yorkers and take legal action against Donald Trump’s illegal and unconstitutional federal funding pause.

ADD YOUR NAME

Federal funding is a promise that was made to us – to our people. We’re going to fight this. But when our city's future is on the line, our Mayor can't just be thinking about his own.

In solidarity,

Brad
