Dear Members and Associates,
DSA continues to build and organize during this crisis, and much of that takes place online. I've attended a number of these, and they have been excellent. I highly recommend them for members, and also for progressives who might be DSA curious or care passionately about the issue.
First is Housing, and I will paste this from the email I received Use the link to sign up:
WED: HOUSING JUSTICE COMMISSION NATIONAL LAUNCH CALL
"The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed the cruelty and injustice of the housing market in America. Many of your chapters are organizing tenants in various ways. Will you help turn folks out for our national call to build tenant power, TOMORROW, Wednesday May 27? The new DSA Housing Justice Commission is being established to support new housing justice organizing campaigns, to facilitate sharing skills and stories between organizers and campaigns, and to coordinate campaigns that build grassroots tenant power across the country. On this call we’ll feature Tenants’ union organizers in Metro DC who are helping to support multiple rent strikes; from unhoused and housed comrades in Los Angeles working to protect encampments and occupy vacant rooms for safe shelter; and from Juan Marcano, a socialist City Councillor in Aurora, CO., on his work to protect tenants and support the fight to cancel the rent. Encourage members of your chapter to join the launch of the Housing Justice Commission on Wednesday at 8pm ET / 5pm PT!"
Our chapter also needs five members to volunteer to be our housing representatives for DSA's new Housing Justice Commission. They would be able to vote on housing issues and report back to the chapter. Let me know if you are interested.
The other training that I can't recommend enough is this Thursday. This is especially relevant given the horrible event in Minneapolis two days ago. Here is the information and link:
This Thursday, 5/28 at 8pm ET / 7pm CT / 6pm MT / 5pm PT, we will be hosting the third and final session of our DSA Organizing School, a training series meant to develop new members and non members and push them to get involved in their local DSA chapters. This week, our guest speakers Phillip Agnew and Linda Sarsour will be talking about how we need socialism to fight racial capitalism."
Attending the previous sessions is not required, but if you are curious, you can find the recordings here:
