Dear John,
In a harebrained two-page memo issued yesterday, the second coming of the Donald Trump administration just announced a freeze on federal financial assistance, pausing a whole range of programs while it “reviews” where taxpayer money is going. Their goal is to align spending with their political priorities, including “ending wokeness” and cutting funding to programs considered too progressive.
"The White House’s actions are both ideological extremism and incompetence,” said Reed Galen, founder of The Union. “In their zeal to root out ‘DEI’ they’re harming tens of millions of Americans including school kids and Medicaid recipients.”
None of these actions is about saving money — it’s about using taxpayer dollars to promote a very specific, divisive agenda, and ignoring the real, immediate needs of millions of Americans — with, unfortunately, the backing of the new Republican establishment.
“We tried to sound the alarm about Project 2025 during the presidential election. Well, now the vision this iteration of the Republican Party has for our country has come to roost — and it will be at the expense of not only hardworking Americans, but also a democratic union that serves us all,” Galen added.
At The Union, we believe in a democracy that works for everyone. This freeze isn’t just a budget decision; it’s a political one that leaves too many people behind and strips hardworking individuals of truly American opportunities. We’ll keep advocating for changes that will actually make a difference for regular folks and continue to focus on electing good, quality candidates up and down the ballot.
Let’s work together to leave no race uncontested; let’s work to elevate candidates with a better vision for this country. Please share this with everyone you know. And feel free to use our sample scripts below to call and email your members of Congress to ask whether they will stand up for the American people or fall in line.
Thank you for your continued support.
