The Trump-Vance administration has moved to reinstate the global gag rule by executive action, which will cut off funding for organizations around the world if they provide, counsel, refer, or advocate for abortion in their country — even if NO U.S. funds support these activities.
It's a policy that will silence doctors and block people from care, with deadly consequences.
The only good news here is that we have the power to reverse this order. A bipartisan coalition in Congress is introducing legislation that would protect funding for health organizations and permanently repeal the global gag rule.
Tell Congress to support the Global Health, Empowerment, and Rights (HER) Act.
The global gag rule is devastating for people who already face barriers to care. It cuts off access to many of the best, trusted health care providers. It denies women and girls lifesaving health care services.
Let's be clear: The health and safety of pregnant people should never be a political game. Congress must urgently act to end the global gag rule and protect access to health care — permanently.
Contact your member of Congress today and tell them to co-sponsor the Global HER Act.
I know the news cycle has been intense the last couple of weeks, and I'm so glad you're staying engaged with these critical issues. We need leaders at every level of government to use their power to protect our health and rights. We need more members of Congress with the courage to join in and fight.
But more than anything else, we need a mass movement that is resilient, determined, and ready to defend reproductive health and rights against EVERY attack.
Speaking out today is an important part of that — I hope you'll add your voice.
I'll follow up soon with more updates on the global gag rule, other attacks on care, and how you can help.
Thank you.
