Friend,

Late Friday night, Donald Trump fired dozens of Inspectors General across
the federal government. These independent watchdogs are our first line of
defense against corruption, fraud, and abuses of power. They don’t work
for political parties or presidents – they work for the American people.

But Trump doesn’t want accountability. He wants absolute control.

By law, Inspectors General can only be removed with proper notice to
Congress – but Trump ignored the law and did it anyway. He didn’t even try
to justify it. He’s making one thing clear: he will remove anyone who
stands in the way of advancing his extreme Project 2025 agenda.

This is a dangerous escalation. With no independent oversight, Trump and
his loyalists are free to award government contracts to cronies, cover up
abuses of power, and suppress investigations into their own misconduct –
all at the expense of protecting the American people.

This is how authoritarians tighten their grip. They dismantle oversight.
They silence the truth. They make sure no one with any authority can
challenge them.

We cannot let this stand.

That’s why we're asking you to join People For’s “Defenders of Democracy”
monthly giving program – a network of grassroots supporters committed to
fighting back against Trump’s attacks on government accountability. Our
movement needs sustained resources to challenge his power grabs at every
turn.

If you can, please start a monthly donation today to stand up for
democracy and independent government oversight:

Trump wants us to feel powerless. He wants us to accept his lawlessness as
the new normal. But we’ve fought him before, and we know how to win. We’ve
exposed his dangerous judicial nominees, pushed back against his attacks
on voting rights, civil rights, and government transparency, and built a
movement strong enough to resist his authoritarian ambitions.

Now, we need to fight harder than ever. If you can’t commit to a monthly
gift, [ [link removed] ]please consider a one-time donation to support this urgent
effort. >>

This is just the beginning. If Trump can fire Inspectors General with zero
accountability, what’s next? A purge of nonpartisan federal employees
(something outlined in Project 2025)? Political loyalty tests for judges?
No part of our democracy is safe unless we fight for it.

We will not let Trump dismantle government accountability without a fight.
Please, if you’re able, make a monthly or one-time donation today to help
us push back against his latest abuse of power.
