We need to have a serious conversation about Trump’s actions since taking back the Oval Office.

Since January 20, Trump has issued executive order after executive order in an attempt to enact his far-right agenda. And late last night, he ordered a full federal freeze on all assistance programs that benefit the American people. Words cannot describe how unacceptable – and illegal – these actions are.

State officials and non-profits are aiming to fight back, and a federal judge has just blocked this freeze from taking effect, but this situation still deserves our full attention. Millions of Americans rely on federal assistance programs for a huge range of reasons – and trillions of dollars will be held in the balance because of Trump. These programs include federal Pell Grants, school meals for low-income students, SNAP and WIC benefits, Medicare enrollment, small business loans, and so much more.

And we still don’t fully know the extent of harm this latest ploy will cause the American people.

We knew Trump was always in this for himself, but this latest tactic proves just how low he’s willing to go to get his way. Putting a halt on all federal assistance helps no one - not even his own political base.

But we can’t keep saying that what Trump is doing is bad – we need to put our words into action and show him exactly how much we don’t agree with his policies. We need to show our leaders that we are united and we’re not backing down.
