Friend — Trump has ordered a freeze on all federal aid money, an illegal move that will have devastating consequences for communities in Minnesota’s 5th and across the country.

Many states are already reporting that they cannot access their online Medicaid portals. Housing and food assistance will come to a standstill. Infrastructure projects will be halted. Disaster relief will be pulled out from under affected communities. And the list goes on.

This is a callous and authoritarian decision by the Trump administration that will hurt millions. Donald Trump pretends he’s a populist, but all he’s ever done in office is appease far-right conservatives by making the rich richer while stealing more money and resources from the working class of America.

It should be clear now that Trump works only for the billionaire class — not you and me. They want to see federal benefits and public projects slashed so their tax bill can go down. First it will be federal grants and loans, next Medicare and Social Security.

Congress has an obligation to hold Trump accountable for this abuse of power, and we must. If we fail to act, fail to organize, fail to bring more people into the opposition in this moment, it will only embolden Trump and the far-right to push the power of the presidency to even further extremes at the expense of regular Americans.
