Friend — It’s only Trump’s second week in office, and we are already heading into unprecedented, unconstitutional territory. Dangerous territory for our nation.

Late last night, Trump ordered a freeze on all federal aid. Money that has been allocated by Congress for education, health care, low-income assistance, housing assistance, veterans support, disaster relief, and much much more could now be put on hold.

It’s an abuse of power, and a reckless move that will disrupt the lives of millions for no rhyme or reason. This is what dictators do.

Donald Trump and his Republican party don’t care about families and workers, they don’t care about our communities, and they certainly don’t care about whatever suffering comes as a result of their actions.

We in Congress take our role as a check on the power of the presidency seriously, so we must act. I am voting NO on Trump nominees who will simply be a rubber stamp for his unconstitutional power grab. We live in a democracy, not a monarchy, and it’s time we reminded Trump of that truth.

In solidarity,

Ed Markey
