Team, I need your attention on this. It’s serious.
Rent is due in a few days, and Trump is taking money out of people’s pockets.
Late last night, the Trump administration put out a memo ordering a pause on “all agency grant, loan and other financial assistance programs” administered by the federal government. The “pause” starts at 5pm today, and we could be talking about up to $3 trillion in government support for people who really need it.
That’s all a lot DC talk though, so let me break it down a bit:
Meals on Wheels for seniors — frozen.
Veteran Suicide Hotline — frozen.
Bulletproof vests for police — frozen.
School lunches for hungry kids — frozen.
Housing and rent assistance — frozen.
Medicaid payments — frozen.
It goes on and on, and we know why he's doing this. Trump's cooking up an absolutely massive tax cut for the richest people on the planet, and they're going to pay for it by taking food out of the mouths of hungry kids, or kicking veterans out of their apartments. It's insane.
And I want to be clear here, because this is important: Congress appropriates the funds. Trump doesn't get to choose what to spend it on, he doesn't get to determine if it's not aligned with “presidential priorities,” doesn't matter. Trump wants to decide on his own — and that is unconstitutional.
So, what do we do?
First off, this is going to court. That’s happening around the country as you read this.
But on our side, and for those immediately impacted, we're working to identify the full scope of this order. We're going to fight this administration tooth and nail to get help to the people who need it. But beyond all that, we have to make some noise about this.
We can't sit back and take it. I need you to speak out.
I'm asking you to add your name and join me in denouncing this unconstitutional power grab from the Trump administration, and then I want you to tell everybody you know what's happening right now. Everyone has a role to play, and yours is essential.

This is important.
