John — Taken straight out of the Project 2025 playbook, Donald Trump has ordered a pause on congressionally approved federal grants and loans.

Not only is this blatantly unconstitutional, but it will also have devastating effects on communities across Vermont and every other state.

Hundreds of millions of Americans depend on federal assistance for disaster relief, child care, food assistance, farm subsidies, and so on — but Trump’s unprecedented decision to pause congressionally approved funds rips billions of dollars from our communities and leaves folks without the funds they’re counting on.

It means communities hit hard by extreme weather events won’t be able to rebuild. Roads and bridges left incomplete.

It leaves scientists and doctors researching cancer without the funds they need to continue progressing toward a life-saving cure.

And it takes away a child’s access to education during the most formative years of their life by halting funding for preschools.

John, Trump continues to show us that his priorities lie in inflating his own unchecked power and lining the pockets of his billionaire friends — not making life easier for working people.

I first joined Congress with one primary goal: To alleviate suffering. That’s why in the wake of this news, I want to reaffirm this commitment to you.

I will never stop fighting back against Trump’s Project 2025 agenda, especially as he continues his unconstitutional power grabs that harm working Americans.

Thank you for sticking by my side.
