Congress is proposing cuts to Medicaid. People with disabilities rely on Medicaid, including Medicaid waivers, for services and support that we need to live in the community. Cuts take away access to these vital services.

Cuts to Medicaid funding harm millions of disabled people. These cuts put us in a position where we might lose our services or be put in an institution. It’s time to speak out against these proposed cuts, and ASAN has a new plain language guide [[link removed]] that will help you do it! We need you to ask your elected officials to prevent cuts to Medicaid.

Here’s how you can help:
1. Look up your elected officials’ district offices. We explain how in our guide.
2. Contact the closest district office for each elected official, and ask to set up a meeting.
3. Go to the meeting.
4. During the meeting, explain why Medicaid is important and cuts hurt the disability community.
5. Email us to share how it went!

Never met with your elected officials before? We have a step by step plain language action alert [[link removed]] on how to meet with (or call) your elected officials. It has a script for setting up a meeting, and prompts to help you talk about why Medicaid matters.

Need help understanding what Medicaid does, or more information about why cuts, work requirements, and more disability verification are problems? The action alert [[link removed]] also talks more about Medicaid and the problems caused by these proposed cuts. For more details about Medicaid, or to read about Medicaid in a plain language or Easy Read format, check out our toolkit, A Self-Advocate’s Guide to Medicaid. [[link removed]]

Please click here to read and share the action alert. [[link removed]] Thank you for taking action to defend Medicaid and protect health care and services for the disabled community!
