John,
Today, Trump’s funding freeze shut down Medicaid portals in all fifty states, jeopardizing the healthcare of over 70 million Americans.
This is an evolving situation, but as we write this, doctors around the country are reporting that they’re unable to apply new patients or access billing portals, which means that patients are suffering the consequences of Trump’s Project 2025 agenda in real time.
This is an unprecedented attack on our healthcare and our families:
- Over 40% of births in the US are covered by Medicaid.
- The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) is also threatened by Trump’s funding freeze—a program that helps feed more than 41 million people. More than 60% of SNAP recipients are parents to school-aged children.
- Some states, like Connecticut, have reported that reimbursements for Head Start have also been impacted, threatening vital early education programs.
Champions, including previously endorsed Vote Pro-Choice leaders, have formed a coalition to launch a suit against the Trump administration, including attorneys general from New York, New Jersey, Illinois, California, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Delaware.
In the coming days, the Trump administration will surely try to walk back their actions and distance themselves from the consequences of their reckless and chaotic policies.
But regardless of what happens next, let’s be very clear: just a week into his term, Trump attacked the healthcare, food security, and early education programs that tens of millions of American families rely on.
We remain committed to supporting the leaders standing up in opposition of these cruel actions. Our state and local community leaders continue to be our first line of defense against these attacks.
We also remain thankful to you for being with us in this work. It’s never been more important.
In solidarity,
Team Vote Pro-Choice
