John,
Overnight, the Trump administration ordered a halt to "all federal financial assistance," which threatened to take food right out of children’s mouths and immediately cut off aid that countless families rely on every day.1
Already, numerous state agencies across the country are reporting they are not able to access federal funds — including a shutdown of the Medicaid payment system:
School lunches, WIC, EBT, SNAP, and Meals on Wheels — which feed tens of millions of people each year — were all put at risk. Medicaid and cancer research programs were put on the chopping block too. As well as programs like Head Start and Section 8 rental assistance.
And one week in, it’s just the start of their larger plans.
If we don't stop them, Trump and Congressional Republicans are set to cause immense and immediate pain to millions and millions of working people — Republicans and Democrats, in red states and blue alike — all so they can line billionaires’ pockets with more cash.
And if we don’t mobilize, working families are going to suffer the consequences.
We are calling on Congress to oppose Trump's sweeping and unprecedented cuts. Sign our petition today, and we’ll email you immediately after with steps to contact your representatives.

Trump and Republicans WANT working class people to believe that the government simply can't deliver for ordinary people. So their plan is to break it to make sure it can't.
It’s no coincidence that, while he tries to gut funding for food stamps, childhood education, and housing assistance for the elderly, he is simultaneously trying to RAISE taxes on families earning less than $360,000 annually.2
We need to call on Congress to act now. The freeze is scheduled to go into effect at 5pm ET TODAY. Please sign our petition and follow the steps to contact your representatives.
We will share more ways to take action as soon as we learn more. Please stay safe in the meantime, and do all that you can to combat this.
In solidarity,
Team WFP
