We cannot look away from the crisis in Gaza.
Just because a ceasefire agreement was reached doesn’t mean that the suffering has ended. Not when children are suffering and dying from the extreme cold and unsafe conditions.
In Northern Gaza, the Batran family lost one of their newborn twin sons to hypothermia. “...his head felt like ice. He was pale and completely lifeless.”
Dr. Hani al-Faleet, a pediatric specialist, says of the uptick of infants and children dying due to the extreme temperatures: “The situation is deeply sad because it could have been prevented if there was proper heating, clothing, and nutrition available.”
As women and families in Gaza struggle with insufficient food, water, and warming supplies, our team at UNFPA is working to provide generators, sanitary pads, and other essential supplies to Gaza.
We just had 20 trucks full of aid enter Gaza, with another 20 trucks carrying UNFPA assistance preparing to enter during this critical time.
As the winter months continue and temperatures plummet, the need for support in Gaza and other crisis areas of the world is growing. Please make an emergency gift to UNFPA to support our efforts to save the lives of children in Gaza and beyond.
We condemn the violence in Lebanon, Gaza, the West Bank, and Israel, and welcome the humanitarian ceasefire, the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages by Hamas, and an end to the violence. The suffering must end and peace must prevail.
Thank you for being there for women and girls.
