Dear John,
After winning 15 out of 18 ballot initiatives in the four years since our founding, we’ve learned a lot about the process. One recurring theme is that the work isn’t done when the election is won. Instead, it continues as we organize to ensure that initiatives are implemented, and are effectively defended against attacks from the likes of Ken Paxton.
Last year, cannabis decriminalization in Lockhart was one of the five elections we won. Unfortunately, instead of quickly taking steps to implement the measure, in December the Lockhart City Council voted 4-3 on a resolution that effectively declared that they would not be enforcing it.
Last week, supporters of the Lockhart Freedom Act packed the City Council chambers to say it’s time to stop letting threats from bullies like Paxton prevent the will of the people.
As Lockhart resident HalleyAnna Finlay told reporters last week, “I see the fear that’s instilled with the threat that Ken Paxton could sue the city. But we have learned and watched with other cities that those cases have been dismissed.”
As we continue to work to implement cannabis decriminalization in Lockhart, can we count on your support? A monthly contribution of $10 or $25 helps us defend our victories in Lockhart and across the state and build the political power Texans deserve.
When we work together, we win together,
