Dear Friend,
It’s likely no surprise to you, but the new administration is rolling back many of the programs that businesses and consumers rely on. As we prepare for some of these rollouts, the EPA’s Safer Choice program is at the top of our list for safeguarding.
The American Sustainable Business Network (ASBN) has partnered with the Household & Commercial Products Association (HCPA), Worldwide Cleaning Industry Association (ISSA), Change Chemistry and the Interfaith Center for Corporate Responsibility (ICCR) on a coalition letter to demonstrate our united support for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Safer Choice program.
As a voluntary partnership program, Safer Choice collaborates with the business community to introduce safer products and chemicals into the marketplace, creating an incentive for ongoing innovation. More than 400 businesses actively use the Safer Choice labels on their products, while thousands of businesses sell or use Safer Choice products, and nearly 2000 Safer Choice-certified products are currently available.
Additionally, the government has adopted the Safer Choice program as a requirement in purchasing criteria. For the fiscal year 2025, the National Defense Authorization Act, which had bipartisan support, contained a requirement for the Department of Defense to purchase Safer Choice-certified cleaning products to the maximum extent possible.
For the last decade, the Safer Choice labeling program has clearly signaled which products are safer. Tell the US. Environmental Protection Agency Administrator: For consumers and businesses, the choice is clear.
