Hey there —

We’re just over a week into Donald Trump’s second administration, and I’ll be the first to admit that this wasn’t the outcome I’d hoped for.

Many folks are asking questions like, “What happened?” and “Where do we go from here?” but we can’t answer those questions without taking a good, hard look at how we got here.

The reality is that a majority of voters weren’t satisfied with the last four years and felt that their very real concerns over the prices of gas, groceries, and the things we depend on every single day weren’t being heard by the Democratic party.

Folks right here in IL-13 have shared those same concerns with me. Consolidating industries such as grocery chains, steelmaking and pharmacies is directly responsible for creating less competition in our communities, driving up costs for people and profit for big corporations.

I’m not here to make an enemy of Republicans or to shame those who voted for the current administration. I represent over 150,000 people who cast their ballots for Donald Trump, and I promise to fight just as hard for them as I do for everyone in this district. I don’t believe in finger-pointing. I don’t believe in grandstanding. I believe in solving problems.

There isn’t one pathway back to the majority in 2026, it’ll take long, hard conversations with the people we’re working to represent to move forward.

I’m hopeful that if Democrats focus on showing up and listening to their communities — regardless of who is speaking — we can once again become the party of working people.
