Friend, we’ve heard some appalling things from Donald Trump over the years, but this may be one of the most disgusting things to ever come out of his mouth.

Speaking over the weekend, Trump told reporters that he wants to expel Palestinians from their homes in Gaza to the neighboring nations of Jordan and Egypt. His quote: “You’re talking about a million and a half people, and we just clean out that whole thing.”

Let’s be clear: Trump is talking about ethnic cleansing.

There are already over two million Palestinian refugees in Jordan alone, most of whom have fled the violence of settler expansion and Israeli occupation over the course of decades. This move would only create a new generation of millions of refugees who would lose their homes, their communities, and their entire livelihoods.

But far-right leaders in Israel have made it known that their plan is to forcibly expel Palestinians and open up Gaza to more Israeli settlements, eventually annexing the entire Gaza strip for Israel. Trump has even suggested that they should build beach-side resorts on top of the rubble of Gaza’s communities.

It proves the complete inhumanity of Trump’s politics, and the consequences of an American foreign policy that has consistently failed to uphold human rights and international law in Palestine.

It’s now the responsibility of anyone who believes in dignity and freedom for Palestinians; anyone who believes in the need for international law; anyone who opposes hatred and violence, to make their voice heard.

Donald Trump’s proposals would be a disaster for human rights and the promise of peace in Palestine. We must oppose it with everything we have.
