** Leadership
------------------------------------------------------------

Greetings, readers.

As I sat down to write this week’s Leadership newsletter, I found myself listening to John Coltrane’s masterpiece album, A Love Supreme ([link removed]) . The album, inspired by Coltrane’s struggles and hard-won achievements in overcoming personal adversity, begins with a track called “Acknowledgement.” In these perilous times, I guess “acknowledgement” is as good a place as any when unsure where else to start—to return anew, again, to confront the adversity we face.

This week’s Leadership newsletter is a grab bag. First, a piece of news: Idealist and VolunteerMatch, the two leading nonprofit volunteer recruitment platforms, have announced a merger ([link removed]) that is sure to have an impact—let’s hope a good one—on modern nonprofit volunteer recruitment. Next, Elana Mainer looks at how Washington residents protected schools, childcare, and other causes by taxing the rich ([link removed]) . Then, Christine Carrig and Aurélie Athan explain how parents can be better supported in our society ([link removed]) . Finally, we invite you to attend our upcoming webinar, “Advocacy in a Second Trump Administration: A Practical Guide for Leaders on Defending Progress and Advancing Justice.”

In this webinar, we navigate this fraught question and discuss preparing to advocate on the executive, judicial, and legislative fronts, address the likely immediate threats and how organizations can respond to them within 501c3 compliance regulations, and share practical guidance for nonprofit and philanthropic leaders on how to defend progress already won and advance where possible.
