Hi John,
Donald Trump sees endangered species as essentially useless. He's said as much.
That's why, in his first hours back in office, he signed an executive order illegally resurrecting a special committee that can decide any threatened or endangered species' fate. It's a direct assault on the Endangered Species Act.
It can't be allowed to stand.
Please help the Center for Biological Diversity save imperiled species by making a gift to the Future for the Wild Fund.
Trump's executive order declaring an "energy emergency" is a broad, sweeping attack on the wild. No such emergency exists, but facts never got in the way of Trump trying to hand over public lands, waters and wildlife to corporate profiteers.
Part of his order resurrects an Endangered Species Act Committee made up of Big Oil and industry executives now heading federal agencies.
This "Extinction Committee" or "God Squad" will meet four times a year — and is charged with deciding if endangered species like polar bears, lesser prairie chickens, and whooping cranes will keep their protection.
It's an end run around the powerful safeguards of the Act.
By declaring a bogus emergency — and, no doubt, keeping it in place for years — the administration is declaring its death plan for the wild.
Trump moved forward with his anti-nature agenda on Day One. Which is why his administration was met by a lawsuit from the Center just minutes after he was sworn in.
This is a critical moment for all that we cherish and love. The onslaught will be ruthless.
But we know how to stop Trump: We've done it before. No one will fight harder — and more effectively — to save the wild from him, but we need your help.
Please give now to the Future for the Wild Fund.
