A note from from Mayor Brian Turnbull...
** DEAR NORTHVILLIANS,
------------------------------------------------------------
As we ready ourselves for another week of pandemic life, things are getting better each day. This weekend will be a historic graduation “ceremony” for Northville Grads. Alas, there will be no large gathering for the 600-plus graduates to celebrate this year’s historic milestone, but there will be a vehicle parade down Six Mile (Sunday, May 31^st, at 6:00 PM) past the Township office and past the high school, where administrators & teachers will line up along the sidewalks, cheering their congratulations.
In downtown, Northville School color bows will be adorning every flagpole, giving recognition to our graduates. “Best Wishes Grads” will be featured on the marquis of the Theater.
In honor of our grads during this unprecedented period, I would like to reach back in history and look at some of the past graduations. Keep that Northville Faith, Go Mustangs, and Go 2020 Grads of NHS!

NEXT VIRTUAL TOWN HALL IS MAY 28^th
Once again, we will go online to answer questions starting @ 7 PM, Thursday, 5/28. Due to the many community-wide questions, I’ve also invited Bob Nix (Northville Township Supervisor) to join me. Additionally, State Representative Matt Koleszar will give a quick overview.

UPDATES
* Our COVID-19 journey continues, as the State of Michigan has extended the “Stay Home/Stay Safer” policies & procedures until 6/12. Theaters, gyms & casinos will remain closed to ensure all Northvillians’ safety. Social gatherings of 10 people or less is approved effective immediately, and “Retailers” can reopen for appointment-only shopping.
* Additionally, non-emergency dental, doctor, vets & animal grooming services can resume 5/29.
* Previously, retail businesses such as garden stores & bicycle repair shops reopened, along with the restart of construction & manufacturing. Bars & other businesses in the Upper Peninsular & the Traverse City north area opened 5/22, with limits on in-store customers, required social distancing and mandatory use of masks… this is the precursor to opening the Detroit Metro area.
* Large gatherings (above 10) are still not allowed, and people must wear masks or other face coverings when in closed spaces. Barbershops & hair salons remain closed, as well as sporting & entertainment venues. Short-term vacation rentals, schools and camps are closed, too.
As the data warrants it, policies and procedures could be relaxed in the very near future.
Northville has only had one confirmed COVID-19 case since April 23^rd. In total, the City has had 36 confirmed cases, with 5 fatalities, Michigan 55K/5K, and the Nation with close to 1.7M/100K.
Our lives have been deeply affected by COVID-19 – health, economy, home lives, education, civic activities, our businesses, along with our social & religious institutions. Clearly, we will look at life differently going forward as it relates to our work environment, socialization and personal spacing. My commitment to you is to continue to keep all Northvillians connected & safe, communicating daily, publishing weekly and through monthly
Town Hall meetings.
Walking through town, I’m encouraged to see citizens wearing masks and adhering to social distancing -we do it out of respect for others around us. More importantly, our continued vigilance will help minimize the threat of any second outbreak.
ON ACTIONS
* I continue to urge people to keep social distancing but walk for mental & physical well-being. Simply, engage intelligently. Most importantly, continue to stay close digitally.
* Downtown Events – the concert series, all festivals & other events are still being reviewed daily. Please know we’re fully supportive of working within the State’s directives & the CDC Policies to help make these events happen.
* Downtown Business Openings – the Governor updated her Executive Order to allow retailers to join restaurants for curbside pickup. We’ve expanded pick-up areas and are looking at other innovative ways to open downtown for our businesses. Stores are opening again with appointment-only shopping (initially), but things have opened in Northern Michigan, and we will follow this pattern in the weeks to come. Finally, we appreciate all the front-line workers: First Responders, Medical Personnel, and those actively helping them for sharing their time & talents throughout this pandemic.

* I continue to encourage you to support your local businesses in Northville – the survival of your favorite stores could be dependent on our patronage.
* Benefits that the Coronavirus Aid, Relief & Economic Security (CARES) Act has brought to MI.:
+ For Families & Workers – Direct cash payments of $1200 for qualified residents
+ For Our Seniors and those with Disabilities – Meals & nutrition services
+ For Our Health Care – Invests $200 billion in our hospitals, health systems & health research, plus expanded funding for PPE & testing.
In Conclusion
* Senior Transportation Services, Essential Businesses & First Responders activities continue.
* FARMERS’ MARKET is open now every Thursday at Northville Downs (required Social distancing).
* Again, thank you all for your support of our local Northville Civic Concern.
LASTLY, Don’t Forget to Complete the 2020 Census
Census 2020 response rate is @ 79.1% for Northville (2010 was 80.6%) vs. SE Michigan @ 70.4%, Wayne County @ 61.7% & Oakland County @ 75.0%. You can respond online, by phone, or by mail
Please continue to share your Time & Talents with those in our community as we work through these extraordinary times. Many Northvillians have worked together to help our town get through this… it’s up to all of us to do what we can for others.
Be sure to Congratulate a Graduate today!
Be Safe ... and continue to Keep that Northville Faith!
Stay #NorthvilleStrong!
