** Everyone Deserves a Christmas
------------------------------------------------------------
It was fantastic to bring Everyone Deserves a Christmas to Aberafan Maesteg this year.
The campaign has put together over 1,300 food hampers to help vulnerable families across South Wales enjoy a Christmas meal, including in Aberafan Maesteg.
I am really pleased to have once again played a part in the campaign. Well done Carolyn Harris MP on another brilliant year of this wonderful campaign!
** Pyle Coffee Morning
------------------------------------------------------------
Great to hold a coffee morning in Pyle and spend the morning at Pyle Family Breakfast Club with Cllr Huw David and Cllr Jane Gebbie. We were busy chatting with residents about a range of topics including local bus services, housing and community support projects.
Many thanks to Pyle Family Breakfast Club for hosting us.
** Commonwealth War Graves in Goytre
------------------------------------------------------------
Really interesting to visit Goytre Cemetery with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) and hear about the work of their volunteers who look after the headstones.
There are 23 locations across Aberafan Maesteg with CWGC war graves or memorials, commemorating over 200 individuals. Forty-six of these are in Goytre; eleven from World War I and 35 from World Ward II.
The volunteers do a wonderful job checking the headstones, cleaning and maintaining them.
** Noddfa Community Project
------------------------------------------------------------
Great to visit the Noddfa Community Project and to hear more about Invest Local Caerau.
Noddfa Community Project is a wonderful facility supporting the local community through the foodbank and providing a fantastic space for children's groups, community groups, and sports groups to use.
It was also great to hear about the difference Invest Local Caerau has made to the local community since 2016. With £1million to spend on community priorities.
** Alzheimer's Research UK
------------------------------------------------------------
It was fantastic to attend Alzheimer's Research UK’s drop in event to meet with their chief executive to discuss the profound toll dementia has in the UK.
This UK Government is committed to transforming treatment for dementia & backing research into the disease.
** NPT Child Contact Centre
------------------------------------------------------------
Delighted to visit Neath Port Talbot Child Contact Centre and speak with the volunteers about the work they do to facilitate contact between children and non-residents parents and other family members.
It was wonderful to see the warm and friendly child centred environment they'd created where children can spend quality time with family members. I was blown away by the dedication and care of the volunteers.
** Amdani Cornelly
------------------------------------------------------------
It was fantastic to visit Amdani who have been in Cornelly for 20 years, and see all the wonderful work they are doing as a real community hub. They offer free coffee, free sanitary products, a warm space, a meeting place and a charity shop, where you can pick up a range of items for very fair prices.
Amdani also offer a whole host of other community events and help such as emergency food parcels and vouchers, ICT training, craft groups & more.
** Viva Port Talbot Christmas Event
------------------------------------------------------------
It was fantastic to see hundreds of people in Aberafan Shopping Centre thanks to the Christmas event Viva Port Talbot put on.
There was plenty going on, with a range of stalls, live music, all the Disney characters you can think of and even Santa!
It was lovely to see everyone enjoying and having fun!
Well done once again to Viva Port Talbot.
