Dear Jack,

The start of this week marks the kickoff of the annual National School Choice Week, a period running from Jan. 26 to Feb. 1 that celebrates school choice across our state and country.

When it comes to school choice, North Carolina has a lot to celebrate.

First, there is a variety of school choice options available for many of the 2.3 million children living in North Carolina. Families in NC can choose from traditional public schools, public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, online academies, and homeschooling.

As A.P. Dillon notes in this great article about North Carolina and school choice ([link removed]) , our state offers a wide selection of education options besides public schools:

"For the 2023-24 school year, there were 881 private schools operating that served approximately 131,230 students in North Carolina. There were 210 public charter schools operating during that same year with enrollment across those schools exceeding 145,000 students. Additionally, 157,642 students were engaged in homeschooling, which has seen a steady increase in North Carolina following the COVID-19 pandemic."

If you’re a parent looking for school choice options for your child, check out this great guide on school choice options ([link removed]) in North Carolina, as well as this useful tool that lets you search different types of schools near you ([link removed]) .

Second, North Carolina’s current budget expanded Opportunity Scholarships to all families in NC, empowering parents to choose the school which best fits their children. Parents know what’s best for their own children, and now economics is no longer a stumbling block for families who want to escape public schools rife with indoctrination. Opportunity Scholarship registration opens up on Feb. 6 and runs until Mar. 6. Click here to learn more about registering ([link removed]) .

Finally, would you consider becoming a monthly donor today of any amount, and supporting our year-round, cross-state work advancing school choice in North Carolina? ([link removed]) For years, NC Values has fought hard at the legislature to advance school choice options, secure Opportunity Scholarship funding, and help override former-Governor Cooper's vetoes. If you support our work allowing money to follow the students, would you consider joining a group of like-minded supporters who believe in our mission of advancing your values by becoming a monthly donor today?
